Healthcare continues to see great opportunities for new ventures in India. It is once in a lifetime opportunity to create new care model that would cover almost 1.25 billion people. I found this interesting infographic from IDC ventures on the reasons why healthcare is ready for new start ups.
India has a unique opportunity to create a healthcare model that serves the 1.3 citizens. This has to be an integration of primary, secondary, tertiary care with preventive health initiatives. Also this has to involve leveraging technology, in the form of digital transformation as well as gadgets like the smart phone that are prevalent across the nation. I look at two start ups that are active in this space, Lybrate and HealthifyMe.

There are two big challenges when it comes to online health information. The first challenge is that is that there is too much information on the internet. Anytime you search for a symptom or a disease there are tones’ of websites and messaging boards with information that may or may not be correct. As a matter of fact there is more mis-information on healthcare than correct information. At this stage how would one go about getting the best health advice today? Secondly the language on these websites is so complicated that one would need to have done 12 years of schooling to understand it. A study completed in US, Europe and Australia in 2015 further validates this claim.
