How to stay safe during high air pollution

Located in the northern portion of the country, Delhi can easily be described as the heart of the Indian subcontinent. But, much to the dismay of its residents, this city is putting up a fight for life, presently, in order to survive the apocalyptic smog and pollution that made headlines last week.

Being enveloped with humongous layers of fumes and smog, Delhi has spelt “Hell” for every citizen, not sparing even the children and the elderly. As the national capital gradually turned into a gas chamber, the week that passed by even saw the schools shutting down after a health emergency alert was declared by the IMA or the Indian Medical Association.

Aerial spraying to curb Zika and why we should consider it to combat Chikungunya and Dengue

The Center for Disease Control (CDC) in the US finally resorted to what it knows best, control an epidemic. This time they used a bazooka to hunt a fly literally. On September the 10th after more than 50 cases of local transmission of Zika in Florida, the CDC and the Miami-Dade county took the decision to drop Naled from the skies in order to kill the Aedes Agypti Mosquito which spreads Zika.  Naled is an organophosphate insecticide. Its chemical name is dimethyl 1,2-dibromo-2,2-dichloroethylphosphate. Naled is stable in anhydrous condition and must be stored away from light. How digital disease surveillance systems could have prevented the Delhi dengue outbreak

India is perhaps the only country in the world (of its size) where addressing preventable diseases continues to drain public resources. The Delhi dengue outbreak is a case in point. This is the third or fourth time in a decade (the first being in 2006) that the city has failed to prevent the spread of this disease. Close to 3,500 cases of dengue have been reported in Delhi over the last month, of which nearly all cases required hospitalization.
