Why is there no AI in Healthcare India?

Just a few days ago I was on a webinar on Healthcare. The topic was the use of AI in Healthcare and the implications of Ethics in the same.

While all panelists spoke eloquently about the topic, I was trying to recall where have I seen AI in action in India. Unable to find too many instances, I spoke to my good friend and the editor of the New Age Healthcare Website Dr Sumeet Kad. Below is a recording of our interesting conversation.

Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning & Sentiment Analysis conference in Bangalore

Artificial Intelligence is deemed to be the main driver of the 4th Industrial Revolution. Investment in AI has grown at a phenomenal rate with companies investing $26-39bn in 2016. Adoption in 2017, however, remains low. As a result, this has spurred companies from every industry to seize the trend and innovate – from virtual assistants to cybersecurity to fraud detection and much more.

Artificial Intelligence and detection and management of Autism

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has shown tremendous promise in healthcare. Already care providers are using AI to detect cancer and improve care outcomes. Now AI has another use case, detection and management of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

Researchers could predict with precision which risk babies ended up autism by using AI  to decode brain scans. Detecting autism has been hard, in part since the disease is diagnosed based on traits, including a difficulty react to their name or to make eye contact. The classical signs are not present in kids that young, especially babies younger than one year old. The scans show areas that are colored that represent areas with expansion of surface region. Researchers believe that signs develop in the uterus itself, though doctors who monitor risk children with ASD do not intervene until clinical signs appear.
