Dr. Mohan’s Diabetes Specialities Centres recently, inaugurated its fourth edition of Dr. Mohan’s Diabetes Update 2017 at Hotel ITC Grand Chola, Guindy, Chennai. This three day science extravaganza was held from 28 July to 30 July 2017. The Fourth Edition provided insights into the latest advances and guidelines in diabetes prevention and management. The interactive session brought Industry veterans, leading diabetologists under one roof to share their expertise on the vast topic.
The programme was inaugurated by Dr. Alvin C. Powers, President, ADA, Dr. Nam Han Cho, President-Elect , IDF. Also present at the event were Dr.Fiona Bull, Programme Manager, Department of Prevention of NCDs, WHO, Dr. R.S.Dhaliwal, Scientist ‘G’ & Head, Division of NCDs, Indian Council of Medical Research, New Delhi, Dr. Sarita Bajaj, President, Research Society for the Study of Diabetes in India (RSSDI) and Dr. A.Muruganathan, Governor, American College of Physicians(ACP), India Chapter . The programme saw a blend of international and national faculty from the field.
In addition to topics of day-to-day practical interest, the programme threw light on research and technology in the management of diabetes and its complications. Didactic lectures, themed symposia, panel discussions and workshops that were a part of the three day programme. The special sessions included discussions on newer drugs in diabetes, lifestyle & diabetes, foot & diabetes, nephropathy, gestational diabetes to name a few.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr.V.Mohan, Organizing Chairman of the Diabetes Update and Chairman, Dr.Mohan’s Group of Diabetes Institutions, elaborated “Early diagnosis and strict management of diabetes have been shown to make a great impact in preventing and/or delaying complications of the disorder. Therefore, it is important for the medical and research fraternity to convene to discuss trends, best treatment standards and realistic means of prevention and alleviation of associated complications. The fourth edition of the Dr. Mohan’s International Diabetes Update is back and will provide insights into the basics as well as latest advances and guidelines in diabetes prevention and management in an interactive manner. As in previous years, we have gathered together a veritable Who’s Who of experts in diabetes from India and abroad for this scientific feast.”
We had covered Dr Mohan’s perspective on the management of Diabetes some time ago. The focus on research based approach is key to his vision for Diabetes management and this symposia is another platform to get research based thinking into the healthcare ecosystem in India.
Supporting the statement, Dr.Ranjit Unnikrishnan, Member Organizing Committee and Vice Chairman, Dr.Mohan’s Group of Diabetes Institutions, said “In addition to topics of day-to-day practical interest, the programme will also touch upon the cutting edge of research and technology in the management of diabetes and its complications. In addition to didactic lectures planned over the three days, we had even more exiting sessions for the delegates this year including Orations, themed symposia, panel discussions and workshops.”
Also commenting on the occasion, Dr.R.M.Anjana, Member Organizing Committee and Joint Managing Director, Dr.Mohan’s Group of Diabetes Institutions, says “The meeting is designed to update the knowledge with more interactions and relevant to clinical practice and thus of immense benefit to the participating delegates. More than 2000 delegates particiapted in this event. We have 111 National and 7 International faculties working in the field of diabetes contributing to the scientific programme. We have a special symposium on “ICMR-India Diabetes (ICMR-INDIAB) Study”, the largest study ever to investigate diabetes in India, and the first to sample entire states of the country, including in the northeast. The learnings from this landmark study were presented at the Update.”
