The promise of emerging technologies and its implications on healthcare have been a topic of discussion lately. I strongly believe that if designed properly, a health platform leveraging technologies like AI, IoT and Blockchain would reduce the inefficiencies in the system. Today we have pockets of implementations across India, but the next 5 years would see healthcare system-wide implementations. As we go into this new era, what are the key aspects that one needs to cover to make that transition?

For the last 4 years, I have always looked forward to the Philips Digital Conclave in Bangalore, as a forum to debate and discuss these issues. This year again, August 3rd would see the 5th edition of the Philips Digital Health Conclave, being held at the La Shangrila Hotel in the city. A sneak preview of the topics that I received from my good friends at Philips include discussions around emerging technologies and the real world use cases on how they should work.

But the one session that has really interested me is the session I am labelling as the “The Big Fight”, a open and honest debate between the technology and doctors. Often I wonder who is to blame for the slow adoption of technology in healthcare. Most people believe that the doctors are to blame as they don’t understand technology. I don’t think that is true. All one has to do is to step into a modern OT (Operation Theater) and one would see that its a scene out of star trek. The technology being used is state of the art. But then are the technologists to blame, for bad solution design of healthcare products. I know my good friend Rajesh Batra would love such a debate.
